Document management is an important part of
interoperability in
today’s health care environment . Canadian healthcare organizations must develop
document management strategies that effectively capture
paper data and integrate it into digital workflows that accelerate business
processes and improve patient care across the
continuum of care . Here are five reasons why document management
must be an integral part of your interoperability strategy:

  • 1 st reason:  Better data entry feeds
efficiencies and improve patient care. Think of the
faxed document that can take 24 hours or more to get
to the right supplier. With effective document management strategies,
these same data can be captured in the EMR and used
    within minutes of receipt.
  • 2 e reason: The document management
effectively has a positive impact on the market position and the recruitment
    of doctors.
     Entering
data as soon as it is received demonstrates a commitment to the use
of technologies to promote efficiency and quality of care. In addition,
highly accredited physicians and next generation physicians
are naturally attracted to innovative organizations that
    fully exploit the data.
  • 3 e reason: The data exchange
    accurate increases staff efficiency.
Check eligibility for insurance over the
phone, or wait for hard copy
mail-outs of mail-outs are examples of procedures that are slow and
labor-intensive. When these same data are transferred in
electronic format, the procedures are faster and, in many
cases, the information is more accurate.
    multifonctions.

Interoperability is essentially better
data management.
For Canadian healthcare providers, this is a challenge
to bridge the gap between paper and digital workflows while
creating new ways to reduce costs and improve
patient care
.
